What Is Dodger Stadium?

Dodger Stadium is the home of one of Major League Baseball’s most storied franchises: The Los Angeles Dodgers. It opened on April 10, 1962, and it’s the oldest ballpark west of the Mississippi. Only Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago are older. It has 56,000 seats – the largest number of seats in a baseball stadium in the world.

It was home to the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival opening ceremonies and is slated to host Baseball and Softball in the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Where is Dodger Stadium?

Dodger Stadium sits on the street named for legendary broadcaster Vin Scully. When Scully, the voice of the Dodger for 67 seasons, retired, the team changed the name of Elysian Park Avenue to Vin Scully Avenue.

Dodger Stadium is in the Elysian Park neighborhood of L.A. and has the distinct honor of having its own zip code. The area bounded by Academy Road, Look Drive, and Stadium Drive houses the stadium. Some locals still call the area Chavez Ravine, part of the Solano Canyon.

The ballpark overlooks downtown L.A. and provides sweeping views of the city (south), Elysian park (north and east), and the San Gabriel Mountains beyond the outfield.
