Ketamine Experience

Patients are Seeing Immediate Results

The effects of ketamine for depression treatments are immediate. You will no longer need to wait 6 weeks to see if it’s going to be an effective treatment for you.

Lots of new research has uncovered the way that ketamine works in the brain and new studies suggest that ketamine creates a two-step process in the brain that relieves depression. First, ketamine coaxes faulty brain circuits to function better temporarily. Then it provides a longer-term architectural fix by restoring the synaptic connections between cells in a circuit.

Our treatment plans are designed for each individual person. Each treatment is structured to effectively find short term relief of depression while providing a long-term solution to restore and rebuild the brain’s synaptic connections that keep you feeling better and more energized. Many of our patients tell us how they haven’t felt this way in years

Treatment Plans

The initial treatment we recommend at Pacific Ketamine Institute for new patients is to come in for 6 infusions over a 2-3 week period of time.  The recurrent administration of ketamine during this time provides a consistent application that disrupts the pathological connections that create depression while simultaneously building and restoring the connections between synapses.

After the first 6 sessions, most of our patients continue treatment with a monthly visit to provide them with a boost, and to reinforce the effects that ketamine has to help them rebuild and restore these synaptic connections in the brain that have been lost with their depression. We offer an annual subscription plan so you can keep your costs 30% lower than if you were to pay for individual ketamine infusions.  This helps to minimize the chances of having a relapse of your depression months after our last infusion.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ketamine Treatment

HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE CHRONIC PAIN?

Chronic pain, one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care, has been linked to restrictions in mobility and daily activities, dependence on opioids, anxiety and depression, and poor perceived health or reduced quality of life. Population-based estimates of chronic pain among U.S. adults range from 11% to 40%, with considerable population subgroup variation. In 2016, approximately 20% of U.S. adults had chronic pain (approximately 50 million), and 8% of U.S. adults (approximately 20 million) had high-impact chronic pain.

HOW DOES KETAMINE WORK?
Ketamine works unlike any other medicine. It is an NMDA antagonist, which means it blocks pain pathways and reboots functions by “re-setting” nerves and triggers growth of neural pathways. In addition, ketamine also appears to reduce the activity of glutamate, which is the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain and a very powerful anti-inflammatory medicine. Therefore, it helps with both of the main types of pain (nerve pain and inflammatory pain) and has shown great success in the treatment of migraines, depression, anxiety, PTSD and mood disorders.
SHOULD I CONTINUE MY CURRENT PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATIONS?
Yes. Please do not change your medication when you come in for your ketamine treatment. We would advise you to consult with your psychiatric practitioner before and after you talk with our Doctors. Once we have derived a unique treatment plan for you, we can then discuss how it will affect your health. Hopefully, you can start lowering your dosage as the treatment takes effect in consultation with your current psychiatrist.
DOES SOMEBODY NEED TO COME WITH ME FOR MY TREATMENT?
It is not necessary for someone to accompany you to the treatment. You do need to arrange for transportation home afterwards, either a ride, public transportation, Uber/Lyft or walking. It is imperative that you not drive a car or bike until the next morning.
HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS OF TREATMENT?

Pacific Ketamine Institute uses MoodMonitor– a secure, reliable, easy-to-use reporting and monitoring tool – that helps us ensure the best possible outcomes for our IV ketamine treatment patients. Multiple studies have shown that frequent evaluations of a patient’s symptoms during the course of ketamine treatment improve long-term outcomes.

HOW SOON WILL I NOTICE IMPROVEMENT?
Unlike most traditional drugs, effects of ketamine are almost immediate. Most of our patients notice improvement as soon as 3-4 hours after their first ketamine session. Many patients see an immediate effect while they are having their treatment.
WILL MY INSURANCE COVER THIS?
You will have to consult your insurance company for this. You can learn more about insurance coverage and ketamine treatments here.
